This is the story of a little girl with big questions: Can something that is broken still have value? Do forgotten things still matter? Do I matter?
When the grown-ups around her don’t have time for her questions, she wanders off on her own and stumbles into a junkyard filled with discarded, broken, and forgotten things. Among the twisted metal and scrap, she discovers something unexpected—a dented but still shining metal heart. Seeing its worth, she begins to gather pieces from the piles around her. Piece by piece, she builds a robot around the heart and brings Rustbucket Hopejaw to life.
Eager to share her discovery, the girl leaves the junkyard to tell the town the great news: What the world has thrown away can be made new again. Left behind in the junkyard, Rustbucket encounters others who want to tear him down: Twister the liar, Grudge the instigator, and Doubt, the quiet whisperer of sabotage. To survive, Rustbucket must discover what the girl saw in him from the very beginning—and when he does, it changes everything!
