Aster Hathaway

Aster Hathaway is a nonprofit jack of all trades with a profoundly millennial resume and the homosexual audacity to take on massive projects with zero know-how. Aster’s creative explorations include basket weaving, amateur drag, furniture re-upholstery, ukulele, quilting, and now nonfiction writing. Aster graduated from Smith College in 2015 and worked in a variety of kitchens before, during, and since earning their degree.

When beloved friend Alia Shinborough asked Aster for advice on cooking for themselves prior to beginning divinity school in 2017, they produced a short essay of tips, tricks, and easy recipes. Alia was so delighted by the results that they suggested Aster write a cookbook, and because Aster had recently been fired they decided to do so. Aster worked intermittently on this book for about nine years, and was considering making it publicly available online when By Chance Books expressed interest in publishing it.

Aster lives in Buffalo, NY with their wife Emma and two cats who hate each other.
